In essence, the book is a comprehensive and illustrated scientific study of Rev. Lowe’s shell collection from specific Atlantic islands, aimed at both collectors and scientists. This book will appeal to collectors and to malacologists working and collecting the terrestrial mollusks found in the Micronesian Archipelagos that lie in the Eastern Atlantic which include the Azore Islands, the Canary Islands, the Madeira Islands, and the Cape Verde Islands. The shells in this study represent the shell type specimens collected and described by the Rev. Lowe, who lived and worked in the Madeira Islands for twenty-six years. During this period he collected shells from his home base and the Canary Islands. Among the shells in his very large collection are many that he described as newly found species. This book represents a illustrated summary of those shells along with his labels, notes and other information about them. His collection is housed in the Booth Museum of Natural History in Brighton, the U.K. This is the first scientific study that has been made of these shells. The details, illustrations, and the description of these shells make most of this information available for the first time.
