Polymita Uncoiled
by
Adrián González-Guillén
ISBN 9780984714087, published in 2021 by Carlos M. Estevez and Associates, ©Adrian Gonzalez- Guillen, © Carlos M. Estevez, hardcover, page size about 8 by 11 inches, about 20.5 by 28 cm., 378 pages and 3 unnumbered pages. illustrated throughout with photographic color plates and drawings
I will admit that when the idea came up with Adrian doing a new book on the Polymita, I did not think it was a good one. After all, he had already written "Polymita - The Most Beautiful Land Snail of the World" not that many years ago, the book considered to be the "last word" on these Cuban endemic shells. But, I have to say that I was wrong. This new book is not s a replacement for the earlier book. It is one that stands alongside it as a complete identification guide to the numerous variations and forms of these beautiful and highly variable shells. In this book, you will find full-color photographs of every conceivable variety of these shells that Adrian has seen in the more than thirty years of his love affair with these shells. Of course, there is a lot of up-dated material about the Polymita, including discoveries made in the 2019 expedition led by Adrian into eastern Cuba for an episode of Attenborough's "Life in Colour" series that will be shown on BBC TV and Netflix. The photographs of the shells and the breathtaking photos of their habitats in Cuba are superb is not enough to give them the credit they deserve. Like anything that Adrian Gonzalez-Guillen does, this book is a work of art as well as a remarkable reference guide to these snails. These are new books. I have 20 copies signed by the author. Only 100 copies of the book were printed.
