ISBN 3925919090, (Now 9783925919091), Published by Verlag Christa Hemmen, in 1995, in Germany. Hardcover binding, page size is about 9 by 12.5 inches, 23 by 32 cm., 517 pages.
This book is the first in what was meant to be a three volume set covering the cone shells of the world. But, unfortunately, this is the only volume that was ever published. It is considered to be the most comprehensive book that was ever written that cover the cone shells of the Indo-Pacific faunal region. The book contains 84 page-sized color photographic plates, among which are 73 illustrating the 316 species considered to be valid. Most often in multiple views of a species dorsal and ventral sides and, with variations within a species. Also, there are 3 plates illustrating the body and siphon color and patterns of 66 species, and 9 plates of living cone shells in their natural habitat. The text of the book has detailed descriptions for each species, a synonymy for each of them, their measurements, and a distribution map showing the range in which the shells are found. This book is a keystone work for all later publications that cover the cone shells. It is a book that is always in high demand but very few copies ever come to the marketplace. This is a used copy whose body is like new but, there is some damage to the front cover. It has a gouge to the top of the front cover as well as some damage to the front cover where a price label was removed. You can see the damage in the first photo of the book. I have priced it well below the asking price for the other copies of this book that I found offered. These are all used books and are offered for sale for prices close to $1000.00 at the high end.
