A Guide to Marine
Molluscs of Europe
by Axel Alf, Bastien Brenzinger, Gerhard Haszptunar,
Michael Schrödl, Enrico Schwabe
ISBN9783948603007, published
in 2020 by ConchBooks, Harxheim, Germany, casebound (laminated boards), about
16.5 by 24 cm., or 6.5 by 9.5 inches, 803 pages, including 355 full- page
plates almost all of which are color photographs with some including SEM
scanned images, there are 33 pages of important introductory material and the
balance of the book are detailed descriptions of the mollusks in the book
This is an important
contribution to our knowledge of the more than 1500 species of marine mollusks
that are found in European waters. There are full descriptions of these mollusks, which are found in the major taxonomic classes of the Mollusca.
Fourteen-hundred of these mollusks are shown as illustrations in the book. Most
of the specimens are illustrated with several specimens and views of each of
the species. Each of the authors is an expert in the biological sciences, and
each has played a great part in making this book a significant contribution to
our knowledge of these mollusks. The authors call this book a field guide, but
it is much greater and more important than that. I highly recommend the book as
one that is important for shell collectors and to everyone working with these
mollusks for research.
