Although this book is not as comprehensive as the two volume set, "Australian Land Snails" by John Stanisic, et al., you can think of this new book as a condensed version of the set. There are an estimated 2500 land shells found in the Australian fauna this book covers several hundred of these snails in more than 90 families spread over the continent, with an emphasis on the region(s) in which they are found. The descriptions in the book are fully informative and the illustrations of the living mollusks, the specimen shells, and the terrain are of high quality. The book is not a "lite" version of the now almost unobtainable. 2 volume set, but stands alone as an excellent reference work covering these shells.
