Description
A Conchological Iconography of Living Ericusa
H. Adams and A. Adams, 1858
by
Ian Mattiske and Anders Hallan
ISBN0
978394860354
, published by Conchology.be in 2024, as Supplement 18 in the Visaya series, trade paperback, 77 pages. The page size is 7.75 by 11.5 inches, 20 by 29.5 cm. It includes 54 page-sized color photographic plates and smaller plates of each species within the text, as well as two large colored distribution maps.
This is a welcome return for the Visaya series and, it adds to the issues covering the living shells in the worldwide Volutidae. Although there are not many species in the genus Ericusa, they tend to be very variable in their appearance. The authors have studied more than 4000 specimens of these Australian endemic shells for this book. Illustrated in this book are the major patterns and shapes of the shells in the genus. The authors have taken excellent care of the taxonomy of these shells and, they are careful to differentiate the recognized species and subspecies from the non-scientific categories such as forms and variations which are often used for these shells. These are new copies, and they meet the high production standards set by the preceding issues in the series.
