As far as I know, this book is the first one to show us with clear color photos a large representation of the many species of land-shells found in South America. Shells from each country are shown and the book arranges these shells by country, making it easier to pin down a shell identification with a known locality. In addition to land shells, you will find a number of brackish water and some freshwater species as well. There is little information given about the shells other than their name, locality, and size of the specimen in the photo. It has been 4 years now since the publication of "African Landshells" and this new book makes a great addition to what I hope will be an ongoing series. If you are interested in land-shells for the vast number of forms and patterns that they exhibit you certainly will want to own a copy of his book. More specialized land shell collectors will want it as a single place to look at when working with their South American specimens.
