Description
SYSTEMATICS With COMMENTS
Pulmonata, Stylommatophora, Helicoidea
by
H. Nordsieck
ISBN 978-3-939767-81-7, 2017 publication by ConchBooks, Harxheim, Germany, paper covers, A4 size pages (about 21.5 by 29.5 cm., or 8.12 by 11.36 inches) illustrated throughout with color photographs, black and white tables and charts, SEM photographs, and line drawings.
This new book makes a welcome addition to the rapidly expanding catalog of books on non-marine mollusks that we are now seeing. This study covers the pulmonate mollusks in the clade Stylommatophora in the superfamily Helicoidae This is an extremely detailed and very thorough study of the shells that make up the highly diversified and very numerous terrestrial mollusks that are found in this group. The book is very well illustrated with photographs of living mollusks, cabinet specimens and anatomical photos of the soft tissues of these animals. I suspect that this book will not have a general appeal but it most certainly will become a very important reference work for those that study and collect these mollusks. The book introduces one new genus, 2 species are newly described and named, and one older name has been replaced. It is interesting to see that some fossil species are included in this study. That is a topic that is rarely, if ever touched on in other works on mollusks of this kind.
