Description
Murex Shells of the World
An Illustrated Guide to the Muricidae
by
George E. Radwin & Anthony D'Atillio
ISBN 0-8047-0897-5 1
976, Stanford University Press, California, English, cloth covers with printed dust jacket, 284 pages and 32 full page color plates, black and white photo illustrations and drawings throughout the book, 8 by 11¼ inches (19 by 28 cm)
Although this book was published many years ago it is still the main source book for the identification of Murex shells. The book is out of print for a very long time now and the demand for used copies is constant. The photographic plates are sharp but the image size is often small. There are good photos in the text of many of these shells and also the enhanced drawings by D'Atillio. This is the only book we have today that covers the Muricidae and the Ocenebrinae as well as Typhidae and Trophoninae. The text descriptions are highly detailed. Apart from some slight shelf wear at the edges of the dust jacket this book can almost pass as new. After all of the years that have passed since the book's publication, it is still the first "go to" source for information about this large family of highly popular shells.
