Description
Florida's Seashells - A Beachcomber's Guide
(2nd Edition)
by
Blair
and
Dawn Witherington
ISBN 978-1-56164-982-2, published in 2017 by Pineapple Press, Sarasota, Florida, paperback in heavy, laminated covers with folded end flaps, about 5.5 by 9 inches (14.5 by 22.75 cm.), 88 pages, illustrated with color photographs and distribution maps.
This is the second edition of this very popular book and it is expanded greatly from the first edition. Don't let the small size of this book fool you. It is loaded with pictures and information about hundreds of shells, common and uncommon that can be found along the shorelines of Florida's beaches and in shallow water. It is expertly written and contains detailed information about the shells, their habitat, as well as maps of their distribution. The shells are nicely photographed with fairly large color photos to help pin down their identification. Floridians and visitors will do well to have a copy of this guide handy when they next visit one of our beaches. There is also a plate showing some of the fossil shells that one can encounter on a visit to Florida. The book uses common and the scientific names for the shells and both can be found in the text and in the index. The book covers 263 species and has 336 color photographs of the shells.
