Description
Endodontoid Land Snails from Pacific Islands
(Mollusca: Pulmonata: Sigmurethra)
Part I - family Eudondontidae Part II the Punctidae and the Charopidae
by
Alan Solem
Part I 1976, Part II published in 1982, Field Museum of Nat. Hist., Chicago, hardcover, no dust jacket, 884 pages in set with 351 figures, size 9.5 by 12.5 inches (24cm. by 31.5 cm.) Illustrated throughout with drawings in black and white, charts, tables, maps and etc.
This is a monumental work based on the study of 26,000 specimens and a review of 285 species- level taxa in 45 genera of these snails found in Polynesia, Micronesia and Fiji. Most of these shells were previously unreported and 84% of the genera and 54% of the species in this study are described as new. This book is illustrated with large scale line drawings of the shells and their anatomy and there are also a few photos using a scanning electron microscope and there is an extensive discussion of each of the species.
Both books in this set are ex-library and have the usual library stamps, markings and card pockets. The contents of the books are inexcellent condition but there is some wear to the covers especially on Part II which has a part of the front cover abraded.
